DEATH BY KARAOKE
A collaboration between Sakari Laurila and
Lia Haraki, 2021
We take our fictional characters for a walk on the wild side of karaoke. Will any fantasies survive? Death by Karaoke is a karaoke night gone wrong. The scene is set at the Velvet Stallion karaoke bar, where a group of fictional characters are let out to sing their own original songs/stories. The characters are inspired by the performers' failing fantasies, identity constructions, and the surrounding society. The piece zooms into human behaviour as it falls in the no man’s land between direct emotional expression and socially acceptable forms of public behaviour.
