LIVING HAPPILY FOREVER AFTER

2006

A physical piece about the art of not dying. By living happily forever after in someone’s memory, on a tattoo, on a monument built in your honour, one becomes immortal. Immortality refers to non physicality, so it will be interesting to view it from the body’s point of view. Lia Haraki proposes a way to live forever through the memory of others and puts together a performance, where all actions are reactions to the fear of death.

The five performers-dancers deal with immortality by trying to convince us they are truly very special, using a variety of ways to reach heroism and everlasting happiness. By realising their human expiry date, they write their own funeral speeches, reveal their biggest secrets, pay a tribute to old musicals and even die for the sake of staying alive.

In her latest works, Haraki works with stereotypes from film and old musicals and mixes text, song and dance in a way that turns her performances into a kind of entertainment, accessible to large audiences.
