Workshops of any body with Lia Haraki
Do you enjoy telling stories?
Do you enjoy telling stories from your life?
Do you enjoy telling stories from your life and be heard by others?
Everyone can be a performer if they wish to, and this is the opportunity to try it out in a safe environment!
The workshops are for anybody (amateur of professional) and aim towards the development of a solo performance based on biography.
The ‘Standup PerformDance’ method was developed by artist Lia Haraki and her collaborators when they were exploring different ways and degrees of creating intimacy between the performer and the audience. They looked at stand-up comedy as a form of live performance which uses material that is biographical and self-referential to establish communication with the spectator on a personal and general level.
During the series of workshops personal references and experiences as well as a particular way of creating life maps will be the basic tools for creating material. The use of speech, sound, song, movement, dramaturgy, any ability or disability, talent or fault will lead the participants into a journey of exploring their identity as the main element of their performances.
The weekly meetings will consist of physical and vocal warm ups and short presentations where the participants will be asked to share with the group 1-2 minute ‘Standup PerformDances’. The narration of stories and their embodiment, laughter as a bridge of communication, gesture as dance, the voice as text or sound and the various live showings will help the participants become familiar with the idea that performance can be an everyday ritual.
The last day of the workshops will be a presentation of the final solos of the participants to a particular audience selected by the group.
“The best performances I ever saw happened in the studio”
Lin Snelling once told me this and I have to agree with her!
In the frame of this workshop the last eight years, I have seen miraculous embodied expressions of people that do not identify as performance professionals. This comes to show that performance belongs to all and having access to that world is a matter of an inner desire to bring a part of who one is on stage. Lia Haraki
